There’s no denying the Georgetown Raiders, Couchiching Terriers, Kingston Voyageurs and Wellington Dukes all had impressive regular seasons.
These four squads all ended up finishing atop their divisional standings. But they all had to start from scratch in the post-season and will have probably to endure some gruelling battles if they wish to have lengthy playoff runs.
With 32 league entrants qualifying for the post-season, a team will have to win five playoff series in order to capture the OJHL crown.
Georgetown finished atop the league’s Mackinnon Division with 85 points. The Raiders then swept their opening-round playoff opponents, the Streetsville Derbys, 3-0 in their best-of-five series.
Couchiching also ended up with 85 points and placed first in the Phillips Division. And the Terriers played the minimum three games in their first playoff round, sweeping the Seguin Bruins 3-0.
Kingston topped the Ruddock Division with 76 points. The Voyageurs then won the first two games of their playoff series versus the Pickering Panthers. But Pickering managed to extend the series with a win in Game 3.
The Dukes finished first in the Central Division with 75 points. Wellington then got a scare but started its post-season off on a positive note, downing the Stouffville Spirit 5-4 in overtime in its series opener. |
