Toronto, ON: - In 1996, the Bill Richmond Memorial Award was established to recognize outstanding achievement and involvement in the area of hockey development. For over 20 years, Mr. Richmond was a leader in the development and delivery of the National Coaches Certification Program. He passed away in 1995 and left a legacy of hard work and commitment to the development of the game.
This year`s recipient of the Bill Richmond Memorial Award is Darryl Bossence.
Darryl Bossence is a native of St. Thomas, Ontario, who began playing minor hockey in St. Catharines in 1975, continued to play as his family moved to Woodstock and Chatham. He was captain of the OMHA AA Major Bantams in 1986-87. He played Junior in 1987-88 in Dresden and went on to play for the Chatham Micmacs from 1989-1993, where he was part of two Western Junior B championship teams in 1990-91 and 1991-92. Darryl was also an accomplished track and field athlete at Chatham-Kent Secondary School, and was named the Track and Field team MVP in 1990. He received a four-year hockey scholarship to University Alabama-Huntsville, graduating with a B.A. in Biological Science in 1994.
Darryl, who is a chiropractor and resides in Barrie, is a Master Course Conductor and contributor to the Hockey Trainer’s certification program within the OMHA. He has an ongoing proactive involvement, advocacy, and leadership for the improvement of hockey safety in the OMHA, the HTCP, and in the Province of Ontario, sits on the OMHA Trainers` Committee, and is actively involved with the recruitment, selection and training of HTCP Instructor prospects. He has been involved with the OMHA Under-17 Program for many years and was a leader in the implementation of the OMHA Trainer Field Supervision Program.
During his tenure with the OMHA, he has earned a reputation as an individual who is always willing to contribute to the HTCP and the OMHA. He shares the Trainers Technical Committee commitment to emphasis on quality control in the Trainers Program, ensuring the interests of improving hockey safety, and the Program.
Darryl’s credentials, both in hockey and professionally, along with his dedication and record of service and leadership is well known throughout the OMHA. Darryl’s forward thinking, progressive philosophy, along with his extensive knowledge of the game at all levels, is coupled with a tremendous commitment to the OMHA and the HTCP. |
