The Ottawa Sting Midget AA team has been chomping at the bit to get things firing on all cylinders. However, with this team, the coaches just might be as keen as the players.
“We’ve got a bunch of young coaches who are all pretty eager to do a good job,” said head coach Steve Besharah.
Without any tournaments until November, the Sting have started the season 2-0 with 15 goals for and only six against.
But still, the coaching staff won’t be completely pleased until they know every player can contribute to his fullest.
“We’ve tried to set the team so that we don’t have specific players out for the penalty kill and powerplays,” said head coach Steve Besharah. “We want to use everybody. It’s not going to be four or six guys that know what to do; it’s going to be everybody. So that process is going to take a little longer I think.”
One of the main reasons behind Besharah’s philosophy is to offset problems posed by potential injuries or penalties to some of his top players.
“That was the big thing in the past, you get injuries,” he said. “Then one of the guys on the powerplay ends up takes a penalty and you’re in trouble. That’s my only concern. I want to be able to send everybody out and know they can do the job.”
Although early, the bench boss like what he sees in his team.
“When you consider where we are, we’ve only had two games so far this season, overall we’ve looked pretty good,” he said.
“We’ve got a lot to go yet, but they’re doing well.” |
